My Dad, who went to heaven more than 20 years ago, and the way he lived and interacted with me, is the reason I wrote this book. He taught me how to fish, shared stories of his life, expounded on any number of current and important-to-living topics and perhaps, most importantly, helped me see the great value in learning from other men.
Yet, it seemed to me that my Dad didn’t have good friends around him to give him solid advice and temper his independence. As a result, it was always my personal objective to make sure I had other guys in my life who could challenge and encourage me to be the man God called me to be. This book is my attempt to show through the story of Jake, Mitt and the others, the high value for men to have honest, open and real relationships with other Good and Godly men.

This trip, and this book, helps men reach beyond themselves to explore the larger story, and expand their peripheral view in order to see both blind spots and unlimited opportunities for personal growth. If status quo is your goal, this book will not meet your needs. However, if you are wanting to engage in continuous improvement, then settle in for a long read and drink deeply from the authors wisdom and candor.

Trip Planning and Consulting
Inspired to reproduce something similar to The Fishing Trip? Jack’s desire is to see other men experience similar adventures which can be planned around lots of different things: fishing, hunting, golfing, camping or rock-climbing.
The key is to organize an adventure which allows a group of men to enjoy life together in an atmosphere of fun and friendly fellowship where God is invited to be a part.
Planning a ‘Fishing Trip’ involves some key steps that Jack can help you think through and act upon:
- Hoped for Results – determining what you think God wants to accomplish with your trip.
- Building a Team – identifying and recruiting the other key leaders you will want to help you pull of the ‘trip.’
- Strategy – what are the key elements of your ‘trip’ that will make it successful.
- Implementation – how to organize the ‘trip’ for success.
- Fun – how to make sure the whole process is fun for you and the guys that are involved.
